ID: Bastard Indigo

This is only half an ID, since I don’t know what kind of butterfly that is. But the plant it’s on is a bastard indigo (Amorpha fruticosa).

Pictures of Pitchers1

But first, in honor of Earth Day, the online art community deviantART is donating 10% of its prints sales to The Nature Conservancy. ID: Indian Pinks

These little two-toned flowers are blooming all around the visitor center at Florida Caverns State Park right now.

ID: Pale Grass-Pink

I was looking for pitcher plants in the Apalachee Savannahs when I happened to see this little plant, the pale grass-pink (Calopogon pallidus). It’s a member of the orchid family, as you may have guessed from the oddly shaped flowers. The flowers may be small, but they’re very interesting up close.

ID Project: Florida Anise

ID: Showy Rattlebox

And here’s the yellow flower I mentioned in my last post. Turns out it’s showy rattlebox — Crotalaria spectabilis. It is not native to Florida; it was originally imported as a cover crop. Now it grows wild here and there in disturbed areas.
